Ashelyn is a freshman at Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts, majoring in Stage Management.
She graduated from Savannah Arts Academy, the number 7 high school in Georgia. Her passion for theatre was born in fifth grade with her role as a fairy in Peter Pan, that small part put her on a path that no one could have predicted for the shy 10-year-old. Since that time she has performed in 18 more productions including at the National Junior Theater Festival and a leading role in an award-winning student film at the All-American High School Film Festival.
Acting will have to wait…
Early in Ashelyn’s junior year, she was recruited by the theatre department chair to stage manage his show. That first show changed what she thought she wanted to do…to what she knew she was going to do. Suddenly other department directors and even those outside the theatre department began asking her to stage manage their shows.
Quoting one of her teachers “…she is uniquely gifted at stage managing…she is able to focus on what needs to be done without being told, that is something that can’t be taught” adding “she understands the entire process and the way directors brains work”.
Ashelyn is looking for a college that will allow the opportunity for a variety of stage management experiences, nurture her desire to master her craft, and give her the chance, when ready, to lead.
